We select companies and products to list based on their mission statements and supporting available information. Sources and products must demonstrate excellence across these categories: animal rights, sustainability, and human rights.
We are proud to be a PETA-Approved Vegan vendor - one of fewer than 100 in the world. All of our items are vegan and cruelty-free to the best of our knowledge, which means that they are made entirely without animal products and animal testing. Materials that we do not allow include: leather (incl. suede), wool (incl. merino, alpaca), animal hair (incl. angora), animal fur (incl. shearling), down (incl. feathers), silk, and beeswax/honey. Our body products are cruelty-free and vegan. The best products and companies are certified vegan and certified cruelty-free. We look at Leaping Bunny, Beauty Without Bunnies (PETA), and Choose Cruelty Free (CCF). We also accept products developed and manufactured in the European Union (EU), which does not allow animal testing; these products must also be vegan.
All of our items are made with the environment in mind, which mean they are meant to last more than a season, reducing waste. The best products are compostable, made with renewable resources, and/or incorporate certified organic grown materials.
We believe that all companies should have transparent supply chains and treat their workers and employees with respect and dignity. The best products and companies are certified fair trade by Fair Trade International or Fair Trade USA. We also take into account whether or not the company reinvests profits into the communities that work to produce its products.
We are a research-based company and do our best to vet all of the companies and items that we list based on available information. If you find an item or company that you don't think we should list, please let us know right away by using the contact form, accessible through the link at the bottom of the website.
