It's a big victory for vegans that the Korean novel The Vegetarian has won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize for fiction. Author Han Kang and her translator Deborah Smith received the award at a ceremony in London. The book is about a Korean woman who decides to stop eating meat, and her struggles with her family to accept this decision. It's an allegory about the old, traditional Korea, and the new, progressive Korea.

While hauntingly rich in imagery, it's a wonderful read that we recommend for vegans and vegetarians sick of reading nonfiction. You can read a good story and still educate yourself. Readers can expect to be more emotionally in tune with the struggles and psychological difficulties of adopting a vegan or vegetarian diet or lifestyle.
